The Bangura Foundation was founded in memory of Momodu Bangura, an inspiring educationalist whose personal journey embodies the transformative power of education. Born into a poor family, Momodu was unable to afford formal schooling. However, thanks to scholarships that recognised his remarkable intellect and potential, he was able to receive an education that would propel him from primary school through university. His academic achievements not only changed the trajectory of his own life but also instilled in him a deep belief that education is the key to individual empowerment and societal progress.
This belief became the guiding principle behind The Bangura Foundation, which was established by Ishmael Bangura after the untimely death of his father when Ishmael was only seven years old. Despite this tragic loss, Ishmael channelled his grief into purpose, creating a foundation that would continue his father’s legacy by offering scholarships, support, and guidance to people who, like his father, come from disadvantaged backgrounds yet have the potential to thrive if given the opportunity.
